Recent CD Recordings

Following successful recordings for the Naxos and Signum labels, the choir now records exclusively for Hyperion Records. The first Hyperion release, Hail Queen of Heaven, features the contemporary Latvian composer Rihards Dubra. Time is Endless, samples the music of Lithuanian composer Vytautas Miškinis, and March 2012 will see the release of Endless Border, a new disc featuring the music of Swedish composer, Bo Hansson. Future projects include a disc of Peter Philips double choir motets with the English Cornett and Sackbut Ensemble in January 2012, and music by Estonian and Latvian composers with the Britten Sinfonia in June.

All the CDs listed here are available for purchase directly from the choir with secure payment via PayPal. All sales support the work of the choir.

Time is endless, released in November 2010, features music from Lithuanian composer Vytautas Miškinis. His music, while bearing identifiable Lithuanian roots, is a synthesis of different influences carefully shaped and moulded with an experienced understanding of choral orchestration. The overall effect Hyperion describe as "luscious, radiant and exotic".

The Revelations of Divine Love (Metaphors from Sea and Sky), a new oratorio by young American composer Carson Cooman, was commissioned for the Choir of Royal Holloway. The oratorio sets texts of the early English mystic Julian of Norwich.

This is a live concert recording of the US premiere given in Harvard with the Buttrick Sinfonia. This is a US release and can only be purchased outside of the US directly from The Choir of Royal Holloway via this website.

Young American Carson Cooman is a prolific composer. His music is more harmonically advanced than his fellow countrymen Lauridsen and Whitacre, yet his music remains immediately accessible to the listener, and begs repeated listening.

Rupert Gough's first recording with Royal Holloway Choir, the 'sacred banquet' of music spans the 16th to 21st centuries. It includes Arvo Pärt’s Magnificat, Holst's Nunc Dimittis, and pieces by Byrd, Bruckner, Stanford and Weelkes. The title track is Gabriel Jackson's setting of O sacrum convivium.

This is the first full CD recording of the Chapel's 3-manual Harrison and Harrison organ, by the College Organist, Rupert Gough. The repertoire has been carefully chosen to suit the French-inspired characteristics of this remarkable instrument. The CD includes Suite Brève by Jean Langlais, Quatre pièces sur des cantiques Bretons by Jean-Dominique Pasquet and ten lively Provencal Noëls written in a neo-baroque style by Guy Morançon.
