Application and Audition Infomation

The deadline for applications for Choral and Organ Scholarships is February each year for the following September.

The number of scholarships will be determined by the quality of the candidates selected for interview and audition at the College. The scholarships are of the value of up to £1,500 per annum (organ) and £700 per annum (choral).

For Choral Scholars, the audition consists of the performance of two contrasting songs (of the candidate's own choice), sight-singing, and aural tests, lasting approximately 20 minutes. Here are some examples of the level of sight-singing required:

For Organ Scholars, the audition will consist of the performance of two contrasting works (of the candidate's own choice), sight-reading, score-reading, accompaniment of a hymn and a psalm, and improvisation, lasting approximately 30 minutes.

It is not necessary for choral or organ scholars to read for degrees in Music. Applications will also be considered from postgraduate students.

Candidates who wish to compete for these scholarships must submit an entry form direct to the College in addition to making an application for their chosen degree course through UCAS.

Please Note: The entry form for audition in March 2013 will be available from late 2012. However, please feel free to download last year's form for reference.

Award of the scholarships will be conditional upon the candidates satisfying the University of London's entrance requirements and those of the College.

A testimonial should be sent under separate cover by the Director of Music of the candidate's school (or other person qualified to judge the musical ability of the candidate) to be received by the same date.

Please send completed forms to the Choral Music Administrator, Chapel Choir, Department of Music, Royal Holloway University of London, Egham, Surrey, TW20 0EX.

All application forms will be scrutinised by the Director of Choral Music and, on the strength of the candidate's experience and references, suitably qualified applicants will be invited to attend an audition. Successful candidates will be contacted by e-mail, telephone, or letter and auditions will be held in March 2013.
