The choir features in a premiere recording of music for choir and orchestra by James Francis Brown. A contemporary British composer, he continues the style of English pastoralists, with a modern twist. Alongside Orchestra Nova, the choir performs in the title track, a collection of three psalms for string orchestra and choir. This album also features Brown’s Clarinet Concerto and Trio Concertante.
Orchestra Nova’s performances are thoroughly committed and winning, proving themselves real partners to the four excellent soloists and splendid Royal Holloway Choir, all playing with a relish matched on the podium by Vass. The sound is terrific, too. A must-buy disc! (Gramophone)
